The Details
In a colored towel, the dyeing method matters most. Vat dye enters the cotton in a soluble form, soaks into the fiber, and is then converted back into an insoluble pigment trapped inside it. Because the color sits within the fiber rather than on its surface, it resists washing out and holds up well in sunlight.
The yarn is ring-spun, drawn and twisted tightly so fewer fiber ends stick out from the surface. That gives the towel a smoother hand and a stronger loop than open-end yarn.
Five colors also give a facility a simple sorting system. One shade for pool towels and another for guest rooms keeps linens where they belong.
