The Details
Two yarn specs work together here. Cotton counts run in reverse, so 12s is a thick yarn that gives the loops body. Ring spinning draws the fibers out and twists them continuously, binding them tightly so fewer loose ends stand up from the surface. That is what makes the hand smooth rather than coarse, and it produces a stronger yarn than open-end spinning at the same count.
The polyester gives the towel its backbone. It is stronger than cotton and resists stretching and shrinking, so the towel keeps its dimensions through repeated laundering.
Carton packing is the other deliberate choice. Bale packing presses towels tightly to cut freight cost, which flattens the pile. Cartons cost a little more to ship but leave the loops uncrushed, so the towels arrive with more of their loft.
